Notre Dame-West Haven held a signing day ceremony Thursday, pushed back from Wednesday due to inclement weather. Below is the official press release from the

Goldrich will attend New Hampshire, while LB David Rose is headed to Central Conn.

Two key players that helped
Notre Dame win 18 games over the last two years including the 2009 Class L state championship announced where they will continue their academic and athletic careers.
Goldrich signed with the University of New Hampshire while Rose will attend Central Connecticut State University (
CCSU).
Goldrich and Rose made it official by signing their letters of intent Wednesday and faxing it to their respective schools. A ceremony was held Thursday due to the winter weather that postponed school Wednesday.
Goldrich, a West Haven native, chose New Hampshire over
UMass, URI, and
CCSU while Rose, who hails from
Hamden, chose
CCSU over Assumption, Maine, Pace, Salve Regina, and Mt. Union (OH).
Both three-year varsity starters,
Goldrich and Rose helped lead
Notre Dame to 22 wins over three seasons, including an 11-1 2009 campaign that ended with the Green Knights finishing #1 in every media poll following
Notre Dame’s thrilling 28-21 win over
Pomperaug in the Class L title game.
This past fall, they led
Notre Dame to a 7-3 record, including wins in his final four games.
Notre Dame’s three losses came to playoff participants Xavier, West Haven, and North Haven by a mere 11 points. The duo helped
Notre Dame be the highest scoring team in the Southern Connecticut Conference for the last two years.
SEAN GOLDRICHGoldrich, a Coaches all-State selection and NH Register All-Area pick, finished his career guiding
Notre Dame to a 22-8 record after taking over in the third game of his sophomore season. For his career,
Goldrich threw for over 1,000 yards three straight seasons and ended his career with 4,173 yards, a 63% completion rate, and 42 touchdowns.
As a senior,
Goldrich completed 56% of his passes and threw for 1562 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also ran for almost 500 yards and five touchdowns. He had a remarkable junior season culminating with a two-touchdown performance in the 2009 Class L championship game. He threw a touchdown and ran for another in the snowy conditions at Shelton High School. For the season, he threw for 1504 yards and 20 touchdowns.
“New Hampshire was a great fit for me,” said
Goldrich, who will join former
Notre Dame lineman Robert Bowman ’10 on the New Hampshire roster. “It was the perfect balance between academics and athletics. I liked the environment, the campus and there was a great bond I felt with the team when I visited. I liked the way they run their offense and there is a good opportunity for me to compete for the job in the future.”
“Sean is an outstanding athlete who had an exceptional career at QB for us,” said
Notre Dame head coach Tom
Marcucci ’66. “He is outstanding leader with great speed and an outstanding arm. He will be comfortable in any offense he plays in and the University of New Hampshire is a great fit. In my opinion, Sean has been the best QB in Connecticut for the past two seasons and there is no doubt that he will excel at that position as a collegiate player.”
Goldrich is joining a program at the University of New Hampshire that has known nothing but success in the past seven seasons. The Wildcats finished 2010 with an 8-5 record and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA
FCS playoffs. It was the seventh straight time
UNH has qualified for the NCAA playoffs. The Wildcats have won 10 or more games four times since 2004.
DAVID ROSE
A two-way player at fullback and linebacker, Rose combined for almost 1250 yards (995 rushing/254 passes) over his last two years. This past year, he ran for 595 yards and scored 10 touchdowns, including culminating his career with a four-touchdown performance in
Notre Dame’s 47-0 win over
Hamden Thanksgiving Day. As a linebacker, Rose had 69 tackles and one fumble recovery as a senior, despite missing two games with injury. He added 41 tackles as a junior.
“
CCSU was a great fit for me,” said Rose, who was selected to the 2010 Levi Jackson All Star Football Team. “It is a good fit for me academically that has my intended major (Biology). They have a successful program and it offers me a chance to play right away if I work hard.”
“David is an exceptional two-way player who produced on both sides of the ball for us,” said
Marcucci. “He has great athletic ability with good speed and great hands. He can play both fullback and linebacker and I have no doubt he will have a productive collegiate career playing defense at
CCSU.”
“We are very happy for both Sean and David,” said
Notre Dame President Br. James
Branigan, C.S.C. “They are impressive in the classroom, in our community and on the football field. They both have tremendous hearts and are always willing to help their brother students here at
Notre Dame. They will be successful in all their future endeavors because of their positive attitude and caring nature.”
Rose is also joining a successful
CCSU program. They have had seven consecutive seasons, winning at least a share of the Northeast Conference title four times since 2004. They finished the 2010 campaign with an 8-3 record, sharing the title with Robert Morris. The Blue Devils also own the third longest active home winning streak, having won their last 15 games at
Arute Field.
