Beler services finalized
Calling hours will be held Wednesday for former Foran football coach Lou Beler, Jr., who passed away Sunday of an apparent pulmonary embolism. He was 64. Cody-White Funeral Home in Milford is in charge of the arrangements. Wednesday's calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 10 p.m. at Saint Mary Church in Milford.
Beler, Jr. coached the Lions’ football team for five years in the late 1980s. He started the Law wrestling program in 1973 and also coached volleyball at Foran. Beler, Jr. was also an assistant football coach at Law, Milford Academy and, last season, at Notre Dame-Fairfield under his son, Joe Beler III.
Beler, Jr. was an assistant under current Foran coach Jeff Bevino for nine seasons at Milford Academy. The two lived a room apart in the dorms at Milford Academy for seven or eight years, according to Bevino, and Bevino considered Beler, Jr. one of his best friends.
“He touched so many hearts between Foran and Law,” Bevino said. “And I can’t tell you the calls I am getting from the (former) Milford Academy players. A lot of them are coming in (Tuesday) tonight for the services. I have so much love for him. The guy had one of the biggest hearts I know. You really have to tell the people you love that you love them now.”
Memorial contributions may be made to the Joseph V.Beler, Jr. Scholarship Fund, c/o Jonathan Law High School, 20 Lansdale Ave., Milford, CT 06640.
