Hanratty commits to Notre Dame

New Canaan junior right tackle Conor Hanratty has given an oral commitment to play at Notre Dame. Hanratty, a Register All-State selection, received interest from over 20 Division I programs, according to New Canaan coach Lou Marinelli.

Hanratty's father, Terry, starred at quarterback at Notre Dame, leading the Fighting Irish to the national title in 1966.

Hanratty also went on visits to Boston College, Florida, Penn State, Virginia and Wisconsin.

"It's been a dream of his to go to Notre Dame," Marinelli said.

His career record at Southington in five seasons was 43-13, including 5-5 last year. He directed two teams to the Class LL championship game: 2005 when the Blue Knights lost to Xavier 45-30 and in '06 when they lost to Greenwich 28-7. Mella is familiar with Wesleyan and NESCAC.
