Saturday's roundup, scores

Bryan Turkel ran 20 times for 214 yards and three touchdowns for the Hopkins football team in a 34-6 Fairchester League victory over host King Saturday at Stamford.

North Branford 35, Haddam-Killingworth 0: Joe Perez completed 8 of 14 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns in the visiting Thunderbirds’ Pequot Sassacus victory.

Newtown 41, Oxford 27: Nick Donofrio ran 23 times for 130 yards and has seven receptions for 112 yards in host Oxford’s SWC loss.

Alex Miller was 16-of-26 passing for 208 yards and a touchdown while also running for a score for Oxford (3-1). Jordan Biagioni had four catches for 74 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown.

Will Arndt passed for 244 yards and Louis Fennarolli caught six passes for 101 yards for Newtown (3-1).

Newsome scores six times for Ansonia

Ansonia 46, Wilby 6: Freshman Arkeel Newsome rushed 25 times for 268 yards and six touchdowns to lead the visiting Chargers to this Naugatuck Valley League Brass Division win at Waterbury.

Newsome scored on runs of 16, 1, 5, 3, 35 and 95 yards. Rayshawn Pender added a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown for Ansonia (4-0, 2-0).

Hyde wins

Hyde 27, Wolcott Tech 0: Patrick Davidson and Marcus Rogers had rushing touchdowns for the visiting Howling Wolves in this Pequot Conference interdivision win at Torrington.

Quinton Thompson returned a kickoff 55 yards for a touchdown and Hashiem Roberson caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from James Baker-Howard for Hyde (4-0).

Ridgefield 21, Wilbur Cross 12

Chris O'Dea kicked field goals of 38 and 22 yards, and returned an interception 50 yards for another score, to lead visiting Ridgefield to a non-conference win over the Governors at New Haven.

The Tigers (3-1) rallied from a 12-7 halftime deficit, and shut out No. 10 Wilbur Cross (3-1) in the second half.

Dontay Long threw touchdown passes to Gerald McClease and James Ward for the Governors.

Friday's scores/roundup

Zac Falconeri rushed for 142 yards on 22 carries, including touchdowns runs of 6 and 11 yards, to lead the Lyman Hall football team to their 28-20 win over Hillhouse in a Southern Connecticut Conference Division II West win game at Wallingford.

Quarterback John DeSandre had a 29-yard touchdown run and threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Will Woznicki for the Trojans (3-1). Joe DeSandre rushed for 200 yards on 17 carries for Lyman Hall. Andre Anderson led the Academics (2-2) with a 59-yard touchdown run.


Derby 36, Seymour 29: Rashawn Hendricks scored touchdown runs of 55, 49 and 26 yards to lead the Red Raiders to their Naugatuck Valley League Brass Division win in Seymour. The win marked the 500th in Derby history.

Shelton 35, Hamden 6: Chris Mancuso had 14 carries for 103 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown run, to lead the Gaels to their SCC Division I West home win.

Xavier 41, Amity 7: Ryan Murphy caught a pair of touchdown passes from Pat D’Amato for top-ranked Xavier in a SCC Division I West game at Woodbridge.

Valley Regional 50, Morgan 7: Quarterback Jimmy Fairfield-Sonn ran for two touchdowns, threw for two touchdowns and added a touchdown on a 78-yard kickoff return to lead the unbeaten Warriors (4-0) to their Pequot Sassacus win in Deep River.

Guilford 30, Branford 22: Matt Hoey rushed for 135 and a touchdown on 15 carries to lead the Indians to an SCC Division II West win at Guilford.

Foran 42, East Haven 6: Matt Aspinwall rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns, and threw for 85 yards and another score as the Lions cruised to an SCC Division II East Division win at Milford.

Bunnell 29, New Fairfield 23: Steve Buczek had 20 carries for 230 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs over host New Fairfield.

Ansonia shutouts Holy Cross

Ansonia 31, Holy Cross 0: Montrell Dobbs rushed 30 times for 179 yards to pace the host Chargers to this Naugatuck Valley League interdivision win.

Arkeel Newsome scored on a 33-yard run and caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Elliot Chudwick for Ansonia (33-0).

Chudwick also connected with Andrew Matos on an 18-yard touchdown reception, and Miky Mason returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown for the Chargers.
