Hamden-Guilford TIE

Guilford scored a fourth quarter touchdown and kicker Adam Dear booted the extra point kick to tie the game at 20.

Hamden missed a 37-yard field goal with five seconds remaining.

Both teams played well defensively in the second half and both should be a difficult opponent for most teams this season. Hamden looked very much improved from last season, when it finished 1-9.

Quarterback Jon Criscuolo and running back Fred Turcio lead a deceptive Guilford offense.

The full game story will appear in Friday's Register as well as all other scores and area roundups.

Attention Coaches

Coaches and scorekeepers---

With Week 2 upon us, it's imperative that you report your games to the Register.

There is several options to do so:

You may call the game in. Our main number is (203) 789-5657.
Our e-mail address is localsports@nhregister.com.
Our fax machine is (203) 789-5253.

We have a Sports Web Exchange system that we use to enter the information when it is sent into us.

However, coaches and scorekeepers are more than welcome to enter the game themselves. It's a fairly easy process and we encourage coaches to use it.

If you're interested, please send an e-mail to mpucci@nhregister.com. and I will send you back an username, password and directions in how to use the system.

It's the job of the home team to call in their game each week. When reporting your games, please make sure you have complete scoring information and names for both teams.

We would appreciate it if you could report your games ASAP. This will save us from calling your home after 11 p.m. or from calling your athletic director.

All we want is the information. I don't think that's too much to ask for.

Watching Thomas

Ansonia's Alex Thomas will likely land in second place in three categories in the state record book.

Each week, this blog will update the chase.

Last week against Kennedy-Waterbury, Thomas rushed for 175 yards, scored three times and amassed 18 points.

For his career, Thomas now has 4,858 yards, which is still eighth best in state history. He needs 195 yards to move ahead of New Fairfield's Rich Comizio for seventh place.

The touchdown total is now at 70 and Thomas moved into ninth place.

His point total stands at 483.
