NEW HAVEN — The Haddam-Killingworth offensive line had been pretty impressive during the preseason according to head coach Dennis O’Rourke.

In the first half against Hyde, though, that unit for the Cougars wasn’t exactly playing up to their potential.

That changed during the final two quarters and it allowed H-K to score 29 unanswered points in this Pequot Conference Sassacus Division contest.

Nate Cruz scored on a 9-yard run with 7:34 left in the fourth quarter to give the Cougars the lead for good in a 51-30 win over the Howling Wolves Saturday at Bowen Field.

Haddam-Killingworth senior running back Andrew Vollaro suffered an apparent foot injury in the Cougars' 51-30 win over Hyde on Saturday.

Vollaro did not play in the second half. Before being injured, Vollaro rushed 11 times for 73 yards.

"He got stepped on," H-K coach Dennis O'Rourke said. "We're not sure if there's a break or not. We'll see."

Vollaro was expected to be the Cougars featured back this season.

Lewis Mills athletic director Dan Tanner just told me that Lewis Mills will be forced to forfeit this week's game against Haddam-Killingworth.

As part of the ruling handed down by the CIAC Tuesday following a brawl during the third quarter of last Saturday's Lewis Mills vs. North Branford game, every player on both Lewis Mills and North Branford was suspended for one game.

Lewis Mills, a first-year varsity program, will be unable to field a team for this week.

“I don’t really have a comment other than to say we think the ruling is a correct one,” Tanner said. “They applied the rules in a manner that they should be.”
