Wilby is still seeking a head football coach after Chris Eckert stepped down earlier this year.

There was speculation that former Bloomfield, New Britain and New London coach Jack Cochran was offered the job with the Wildcats. Cochran did apply and interview.

Wilby AD Steve Baldwin, however, said Cochran "pulled his name out of the running" for the job.

Baldwin added that they will probably conduct a second round of interviews soon.

Jack Cochran has won eight state titles as coach with three schools.Cochran's son Casey led Masuk to the Class L state title in 2010 as a junior. As a freshman, Casey Cochran was quarterback at New London when the Whalers captured the Class M state title.

There is also still an opening at Southington, after former UConn standout D.J. Hernandez stepped down after one season to become the quarterbacks coach at Brown.

D.J. Hernandez has resigned his head coaching position at Southington to become the QB coach at Brown, according to the Hartford Courant.
Hernandez spent one season with the Blue Knights and went 8-2.

Manchester coach Marco Pizzoferrato thinks Southington did.

It happened on Oct. 22 when Southington defeated Manchester 28-14.

Why does Pizzoferrato think so?

Well, Manchester wide receiver Marquis Jimenez lost his armband that had his team's plays on it, coded by color and number, late in the second quarter.

This is what Pizzoferrato had to say, as quoted in the Hartford Courant.

"Southington somehow got it and used it," Pizzoferrato said Thursday. "When our quarterback [Seth DeValve] called the play, D.J. looked down at his clipboard at the arm band, said the play into his headset and then their defensive coaches yelled what was coming to their defense. You can see it on the game films."

Manchester could file a protest with the CIAC. It says Manchester is exploring that option. Southington denies the accusation.
