Ansonia's offense more multi-dimensional
Last season it was Alex Thomas right, Alex Thomas left and Alex Thomas up the middle.
Thomas, the state's all-time leading rusher, who is now at Yale, rushed for 3,587 yards last season while leading the Chargers to a second-straight Class S and Naugatuck Valley League championship. He scored 47 times.
He finished his career with 8,720 yards and 114 touchdowns.
But now that Thomas has graduated the Ansonia offense is much more multi-dimensional, and it seems like, and not to take anything away from the talented Thomas, that some of the Chargers are really enjoying the change.
"It's a lot more fun," Ansonia senior quarterback Ron Bilodeau said. "We have more of a balanced offense. We just don't run. We're more dynamic. We have a lot more options to go to. We had some options last year but we just ran it because Alex was so good."
Ansonia's offense also got a boost when senior wide receiver Tristan Roberts return to the team this season. Roberts played in one game last season before being dismissed from the team for the season for violating team rules. Roberts is one of the most explosive players in the state. The addition of senior wideout Tyrell Moore, who hasn't played since his freshman year, also helps.
Ansonia travels to Woodland on Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Ansonia is in the midst of a 30-game winning streak. Ironically, Woodland was the last team to beat the Chargers on Nov. 11, 2005.
