When Jeff Bevino arrived at Foran in 2006 he heard that the Southern Connecticut Conference was a tough league. However, he didn't know just how tough it was until the games began.

Bevino has previously coached in the South-West Conference at Barlow and Notre Dame-Fairfield and was an assistant at schools in the Fairfield County Conference.

"Evey week (it's tough)," Bevino said. "People said to me before I got here that the SCC is a tough league and I said I've been in some tough leagues. I've coached in the FCIAC and the SWC, and they're all good. But the difference in this league is that every week it's a battle. You're going to get lumped up. That's the way it is."

Foran is off to a 2-0 start. During Bevino's first year the Lions went 0-10. Last year Foran finished at 2-8 and snapped a 20-game losing streak with a victory over Derby/O'Brien Tech last October.

"There are no off weeks," Bevino said. "I think some people are worried now because we used to be the off week when teams played us. But we're a little better now. I can tell you that we're better defensively, and that's been keeping us in games. I hope it stays that way."

Foran faces Guilford on Friday in Milford at 7 p.m.

"They (the kids) want it (to keep winning)," Bevino said. "That's the key thing. But wanting it and getting it in the SCC is a different story. Every week you have somebody tough but I am really happy with the way they've come out and with the way they played. It's just awesome."
