Who's No. 1?

I am in the process of receiving ballots for the New Haven Register Top 10 Preseason Poll. While I have not begun to tabulate the votes since not everyone has voted, I can tell you a few things:

So far, four teams have received first-place votes. Right now, it breaks down like this:

One team has received 12 first-place votes while two teams have garnered two each. Another teams has received a single first-place vote.

35 teams have received votes so far while just three have been on every ballot.

There are certainly some of the old standbys getting a lot of votes, and some who have been voted on based on reputation and others who enjoyed great success in 2007. But there are some newbies and some surprises, and others who are projected to do well but still have a lot to prove.

Check out the complete poll in our special preview section on Thursday. But in the meantime, feel free to leave your comment and give us your Top 10.

I am an avid follower of High School football and I think New London should be number one. They have a handful of division one prospects returning this year including Rich Vitale and Jordan Reed. They play a tough schedule this year but I think they will come out on top. With the new television coverage and so much press in the newspaper it is really exciting to see more of an interest in Connecticut High School football. It is really nice to see kids get the recognition they deserve.

Kyle,

New London received two first-place votes so far but it doesn't look like they will be the No. 1 team in the preseason poll.
Check out Thursday's Register for the full poll.

Hey, Pooch...
Greetings from the great football state of OHIO !!! And KUDOS to Ansonia, the 38th best team in America in 2007. Got it, Greenwich?
Yeah, Ansonia's Chargers lost half the team to graduation... but in the Valley, they NEVER rebuild. They just RELOAD & keep winning.
With all due respect (not much) to the whiners from downstate, "THE Valley Football Tradition" has run non-stop from the 1920's to the present. Even when Ansonia was down for a few yrs around 1970, Lou DeFillipo's DERBY teams dominated the state, and killed everyone.
Again this year.. Ansonia is the top team in the state, with Seymour
and Woodland both Top Ten teams.
Want a state chanpionship? Come up to the Valley and "take it if you can". Hint: leave your Beemers home.. we don't impress easily.
