Sophomore running back Arkeel Newsome rushed 24 times for 332 yards and six touchdowns as No. 5 Ansonia defeated Torrington 49-20 in a Naugatuck Valley League interdivision win at Ansonia.

Newsome scored on touchdown runs of 4, 2, 16, 8, 66 and 31 yards.

Tyler Lester added a 13-yard touchdown run for the Chargers (1-0).

Brenden Lytton rushed 32 times for 124 yards and two scores for the Red Raiders (0-1).
