Naugatuck 38, Ansonia 20
Senior quarterback Erich Broadrick ran for two touchdowns and passed for three to lead the Naugatuck football team to a 38-20 Naugatuck Valley League interdivision victory over host Ansonia Thursday before an estimated 4,000 at Jarvis Stadium.
The win clinched the NVL title and secured a Class L state playoff berth for the Greyhounds (9-1). Naugatuck now trails in the annual Thanksgiving Day series 66-35-11. It was the first win for the Greyhounds over the Chargers since 2001, which marked the last time Naugatuck captured the NVL title.
Broadrick scored on touchdown runs of 1 and 6 yards, and completed 12 of 19 passes for 215 yards. Broadrick connected twice with senior Tyler Conklin on touchdown passes and once with senior Irman Farimani.
Naugatuck led 17-14 at halftime after a 31-yard field goal from Mick Pernell.
Arkeel Newsome scored on a 9-yard run, Montrell Dobbs on a 2-yard run, and Andrew Matos caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Elliott Chudwick for Ansonia (9-1), which is ranked sixth in the Register Top 10 Poll. Dobbs carried 26 times for 114 yards.
Ansonia also qualified for the playoffs. The Chargers will be the third seed in Class S.
