Martone hired again at Hamden

Tony Martone has been hired as the new football coach at Hamden, replacing Scott Benoit, who resigned last month to take a job at the University of New Haven.

Martone had previously been the head coach at Hamden.

Below is a press release by the school.

Hamden Public Schools is proud to announce that Mr. Anthony Martone has been selected the Head Football Coach for the Hamden High Green Dragons. Mr. Martone will assume the responsibilities as the Head Football Coach effective immediately. The District received over 19 applicants and interviewed 3 highly qualified candidates for the position. Mr. Martone was the unanimous selection of the interview committee.

This is a Terrible hire! It is a shame that Hamden ran Benoit out of town, then they hire Martone. What a joke.......It's too bad how administration has got involved with Hamden football, with the talent they have there Hamden should always be in the top 10 and a contender for the class LL title. Good luck with Martone as their leader.

Wow really? According to the records Martone had some of Hamdens best seasons. In addition he had the most wins in a season of any Hamden coach. Benoit who did his best and also had tremendous talent couldn't get to a championship or break Martone's record. Maybe Martone won't have an easy season ofter losing 24, 3 and 4 year staters but it's unfortunate that people are so negative already and they really can't wait to express their assumptions
