Playoff proposal would add eight teams
A new playoff proposal has been passed by the CIAC football committee. The proposal calls for upping the number of teams that qualify from 24 to 32, although there would be four divisions instead of the current six.
If the proposal is passed by the CIAC Board of Control, the quarterfinal round would take place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, the semifinals will be contested on the following Saturday and the finals on the next Saturday.
If implemented for next season, those dates would be:
Quarterfinals---Nov. 30
Semifinals--Dec. 4
Finals--Dec. 11
This proposal would extend the season by one week and still keep the traditional Thanksgiving rivalries in tact.
The CIAC Board of Control is expected to review the proposal on Nov. 19. The proposal may or may not be voted on at this meeting. If it is voted on they could vote to approve it, to have the entire membership vote on it at the annual meeting in the spring or something else (again depending on what motion is made by a board member).
