Volpe hired at East Haven

Former North Haven football coach Gregory Volpe, who more recently was coach of the Hartford Knights and later the New England Knights (same team) was named the new coach at East Haven.

The East Haven Board of Education voted 7-0, with two abstentions, Tuesday to hire Volpe.

Volpe takes over for current school athletic director Mike Marone. The Easties have lost 21 straight games, with their last win coming on Thanksgiving over rival Branford in 2006.

As a parent of a EH player entering his Sr year, I am looking forward to this change! Coach V certainly has an impressive resume. I hope that Coach V's philosophy, ethic and techniques can relate to the high school athlete. I wish him and the Easties a healthy and successfull 2009 season!

This is a terrible hiring. While this parent is looking forward to the change, East Haven would have been better served with Chuck Turcio as it's head coach.

Turcio has been a Eastie his whole life and has had great success at the JV and freshman levels even going undefeated in 2008.

He prepares the players to play but it's just too bad that Mike Marone was a bad coach and couldn't make the best use of his talent like Turcio does.

Shame on you..to talk about Mike Marone..football is about the kids..it's time for change..Turcio is a good coach but we need to step outside of East Haven..we need new fresh blood to turn this program over..if you talked to Coach V you would understand that..he is took the job for the challenge and I know that with time he will do it.

I was very sad to hear that Coach Chuck hadn't gotten the job as head coach. My son played two years ago and it was absolutely heartbreaking as a parent to see them lose each and every game. Their hearts weren't into it because the coaching didn't inspire them. Coach Volpe has a lot of work ahead of him and I can only hope with a younger son in the East Haven Youth Football League the tradition comes back.

Coach Volpe will be a great fit in the East Haven football program. He seems like a no nonsense, very down to earth coach, which is what the players need. Chuck would have been a good choice for the job however so far the players have said that Coach Volpe will be a more than suitable replacement
