Still no word on playoffs
Although the Connecticut Association of Athletic Directors (CAAD) met on Wednesday, nothing official was decided as far as expanding the football playoffs.
Even if that committee did reach an agreement, the proposal would have to be approved by the CIAC board. The CIAC board will make a decision based on the input of the committee, feedback it receives from various groups (superintendents, principals, coaches),and whatever else it determines is relevant to the decision.
The CIAC football committee recently made a proposal that will expand the field to 48 teams involving a quarterfinal round, which will take place on the Thursday night prior to Thanksgiving, a semifinal game, which will take place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and the finals on the following Saturday.
They will keep the current six divisions, but each division, under the proposal, would increase from four to eight teams.
Only a team's first nine games would count towards the postseason under the proposal. Thanksgiving Day games would not count towards playoff rankings.
It is expected that a decision could be reached in the coming weeks.
