Although Crosby was shutout in the second half, the Bulldogs hung on for an 18-14 Naugatuck Valley League Brass Division victory over No. 1, and previously unbeaten, Ansonia Friday at Waterbury.

The loss snapped Ansonia's 35-game winning streak, dating back to Thanksgiving of 2005. The Chargers (8-1) have also been ranked No. 1 in the Register Poll since the final week of the regular season in 2006. Ansonia has won the last two Class S and NVL titles.

Ansonia, which scored on a 13-yard touchdown run by Montrell Dobbs in the third quarter, tried to rally late by a pass by quarterback Ron Bilodeau was picked off by Crosby's Dion O'Joe.

Crosby (7-2), which kept its Class L playoff hopes alive, gained two first downs, including one on a 4th-and-1 from its own 39-yard line, and ran out the clock to earn the victory.

Crosby quarterback Dave Gondek completed 16 of 33 passes for 265 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Tristan Roberts carried 29 times for 173 yards and one touchdown for Ansonia.
