St. Joe's honors Gonillo
Starting with this past week's game against New Canaan, in which the Cadets shocked the then sixth-ranked Rams 35-27, St. Joe's placed "BG" stickers on their helmets which they will wear for the remainder of the season.
That gesture is a tribute to popular News 12 reporter Bill Gonillo, who passed away suddenly last week at the age of 44 due to complications from diabetes.
"Over the years I got to be friends with him," St. Joseph coach Joe Della Vecchia said. "He covered a lot of our games. It was a shock. What he did for high school sports, we thought we should do something. All the kids knew who he was. All the kids looked forward to him coming to the games and them trying to get on T.V."
