Masuk's DeGennaro to ConnPost: Brennan is our football coach

Brennan
The Connecticut Post got to the bottom of the boiling signs of discontent in the Masuk football program Thursday night.

Following a meeting with parents Thursday night, John DeGennaro told the Post, in no uncertain terms, "Dave Brennan is our football coach."

Brennan was hired in the spring to replace longtime coach John Murphy, who resigned in December after 15 years and three state championships.

Throughout the first weeks of fall camp, however, multiple sources in and around the program described large pockets of unrest, including a walkout by players and one assistant coach's resignation, to the New Haven Register on Thursday afternoon.

Team parents hoped to address the situation at a Thursday meeting, which DeGennaro described to the Post as a routine annual fall sports meeting with parents.

Though details were scarce and parents declined to comment to Connecticut Post after the meeting broke after 8 p.m., a source told the Register Thursday night that Masuk's administration had reinforced its commitment to Brennan.

Principal Joseph Kobza told parents there is plan to help Brennan succeed and that he would correct many of the complaints pervading the program, the source said.

DeGennaro echoed similar sentiments to the Post.

"He has a full vote of confidence as our head football coach," DeGennaro told reporter Michael Fornabaio.

Neither Kobza, DeGennaro or Brennan have responded to calls seeking comment Thursday.

You gotta love it when the principal has a plan.

Great way to end the meeting too! No thank you from the coach, principal or AD they all went hiding in the back room after the meeting. Parents aren't perfect but the boys on the team deserve way more than what they are getting. Really surprised, hoping there will be a real turn around this is a great opportunity for the administration to prove real leadership and get the coaches to show real TEAMWORK. They don't all have to like each other but they need to respect each other and act like GROWNUPS. Everyone needs a good dose of humble pie, sorry coach Brennan but especially you!

Are you kidding me? You run the man through the mill, call for his head and say he doesn't know football and then you have the audacity to ask for a "Thank you"? No wonder Murphy left, he had to deal with people like that. Unbelievable.

Everyone needs to respect eachother...even the parents and players. Walking away and leaving your team high and dry is a real good message to send to your kids. Yea, if you dont like something dont do it, or dont show up. How about teaching kids to be strong and come together as one. If Murphy was treated like this it is no wonder he left for New Milford. The kids play football NOT the parents. I hope this coach, who everyone thinks is so bad goes and qualifies for states.

Being very close to the situation - I find it disgraceful. We live in an age of entitlement and, unfortunately, certain "so-called" Masuk supporters believe they have the right to run the program. Kids walking out? Really? Apology? For what, not allowing your children to curse on the field? How about teaching your kids to be leaders. If the administration did its job, kids that walked out and signed a petition would be not allowed back. Shut up and support the coach.

Leaders...that is the problem, we have created robots who mimic their parents. I would never go home and complain about a coach LOL, my father would tell me the shut up and play. If I skipped he would kick my _ _ _ and drag me back to practice, make me apologize and tell the coach to run me until I threw up. Now, if the team playes well I bet all of these parents will take credit...they turned it around because of us, we saved the day, we are Masuk. LOL LOL
