CIAC entertaining move to CCSU for state finals
From the Norwich Bulletin
The official decision has not been made yet by the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, but the playing of football state championship games at Rentschler Field in East Hartford likely is over.
Arute Field, located on the Central Connecticut State University campus in New Britain, is the favorite to succeed Rentschler.
Paul Hoey, the associate executive director of the CIAC, said that as of Thursday, the CIAC was in the red $38,000 from the four state championship football games played at Rentschler in December, and the bills still are coming.
Hoey told the CIAC football committee of the financial plight on Wednesday, and the committee agreed that seeking alternate sites was in order. Matt Fischer, the CIAC’s director of information services, said there is no contract in place with Rentschler for next year, and the CIAC has informed management at the field that it is seeing what else is available.
