A look at 2011: Week 1
2011 Schedules were recently released by the CIAC. Below are what could be some of the week's most intriguing matchups.
Wed. Sept 14
Seymour vs. O'Brien Tech (at Nolan Field, Ansonia), 6 p.m.: The only game scheduled could blossom into another fierce Valley rivalry. O'Brien Tech begins its inaugural season as an independent program after co-oping with Derby the last several seasons.
Thurs. Sept 15
Torrington at Ansonia, 6 p.m.: These NVL schools did not play each other last year. Ansonia will be without Register state MVP Montrell Dobbs, who graduated, but returns almost everyone else. Torrington could be tough to stop on the ground with the return of senior running back Brenden Lytton, who's expected to be one of the state's best at that position.
Watertown at Montville, 6:30 p.m.: Rumor is Montville declined Ansonia's invitation to play here. Instead the Indians opted to open the season against another NVL team. Ansonia defeated Montville in last season's Class S semifinals.
Fri. Sept 16
North Haven at Hillhouse (Bowen Field), 3:30 p.m.: Hillhouse shutout the Indians 12-0 in Week 1 last season en route to winning the Class M title. The Academics are expected to be loaded. Jalon White, who played for North Haven in 2010, is expected to suit up for Hillhouse this year. North Haven returns several standouts from a team that advanced to the Class L quarterfinals last year.
Sat Sept. 17
Staples at St. Joseph, 1:30 p.m.: Two of the FCIAC's most consistent programs. St. Joseph won the Class S title last season but lost almost every skill player to graduation. Staples made the Class LL field but lost in the quarterfinals.
