1973 Ansonia vs Derby at AHS Nolan Field.
At stake was the State Championship, Derby All-State running back John Pagliaro was knocked out of the game early by a very tough AHS defense. The start of the 4th quarter Ansonia led Derby 13-10. Rich Slowick ran for a Derby touchdown with 3-minutes left in the game on a broken AHS defensive play. Derby won the game 17-13 and the State Championship. 1973 Ansonia team wound up ranked 7th in CT. The 1973 AHS seniors also gave AHS its now coveted name CHARGERS. Till 1973 AHS was simply called Big Blue or Lavender.
